Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals (BSUH) Trust is the regional teaching hospital working across two sites: the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath. The Brighton campus includes the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and the Sussex Eye Hospital and the Haywards Heath campus includes the Princess Royal Hospital and the regional centre for neurosciences.

We provide general acute services to our populations in the City of Brighton and Hove and in Mid Sussex and more specialist and tertiary services for patients across Sussex and the south coast of England.

Our current vacancies are at Sussex Rehabilitation Centre and on the neuromedical ward in the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath. The rehabilitation unit is a 39 bedded inpatient rehabilitation unit for patients that have had either major trauma or a neurological incident such as a stroke, head injury or multiple sclerosis. The neuromedical ward is annexed to the rehabilitation unit and offers acute diagnosis and treatment for neurological conditions such as MS, MND, Parkinsons, encephalitis.
These posts offer an opportunity to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team comprised of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech Therapists, Dietitians, Psychology, Nursing and Medical professions.

Work will primarily involve:
• Following treatment plans set by Physiotherapists.
• Assisting the therapists in the assessment and treatment of patients with mobility impairments
• Helping patients to identify and work towards their rehabilitation goals.
• Participating in the treatment of patients with challenging behaviour and cognitive/ communication difficulties.
• To assist in basic stock checks and cleaning and maintenance of equipment
• General administrative duties

There is a weekly in service training programme delivered by the qualified Physiotherapists. There are other Physiotherapy assistants employed by the service; providing opportunity for peer support and peer learning.

• Posts in the Trust are subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Criminal Records Bureau to check for any previous criminal spent and unspent convictions, reprimands, and cautions.

• Appointment to this role will commence at the lowest salary point unless confirmed otherwise by HR Employment Services (Recruitment, Administration & Terms and Conditions)

• We may also use this advert to build our Bank staff. If you are unsuccessful at interview for a substantive role but meet the BSUH standards you may be offered a bank post.

The criteria and terms are set out below;
• If you do not fulfil the essential qualification/skills listed on the job description and specification, you could be offered a Training Contract for 12-24 months, this is dependent on the vacancy and subject to terms and conditions.

• The pay banding will be set at the band below the advertised post. For internal or current NHS employees you will remain on your current banding, this only applies for those currently on Bands 1-4.

• On successful completion of your training and subject to sign off by your manager / mentor you will automatically transition to the substantive banding which the vacancy was originally advertised at.
