ROYAL ALEXANDRA CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

Locum Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in Oncology

6PA locum post with no on call commitment

Post available immediately for 12 months

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a consultant paediatrician to support the existing paediatric oncology team, pending a substantive appointment.

The Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital is an existing level 2 Paediatric oncology shared care unit (POSCU), working with primary treatment centres in London, primarily The Royal Marsden Hospital.

Funding has been approved to expand the team in order to deliver level 3 POSCU services. The other members of the multi-disciplinary team have already been appointed and are in post.

Ideally the candidate will have experience of working in a primary treatment centre, together with experience of working in a POSCU. However, candidates who have limited experience in oncology will be considered.

The post will also involve working in general paediatrics, but the level 3 neonatal unit is covered by a separate tier of consultants.

 Department information

The Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital is the regional children’s hospital for the south east coast region. It provides a range of specialised services, including paediatric surgery, HDU and a paediatric ED. Paediatric oncology patients are cared for in the community, on the dedicated paediatric oncology day care unit and on the paediatric medical ward.  The paediatric oncology team work closely with the adult medical teams to provide a TYA service and late effects service.

Children’s Services at our hospital were rated as outstanding by the CQC in August 2016.
