Applications are invited from experienced, dynamic, motivated and forward-thinking HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists for the senior BMS role within the Toxicology laboratory - Special Chemistry Section of the Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology laboratory. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Biomedical Scientist to run the routine drugs of misuse area within our busy, well equipped Toxicology laboratory.


The role will include carrying out analysis and authorisation of routine drugs of misuse samples and immunosuppressive drugs. You will be integral to further toxicology method development and the ongoing sectional quality management.


Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology is part the Blood Sciences Department within the Central Clinical Services Division. Sections within the Department include Automation, Toxicology, Special Chemistry and Immunology.


The Automation Section has recently undergone an equipment refresh with COBAS 8000 platforms. The laboratory is well equipped, instrumentation including two LC/MS/MS systems, GC, ELISA workstations, FTIR, and a flame/graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometer.


Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals comprises the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. The Trust has Teaching Hospital status and the department is an approved training laboratory and has MHRA accreditation.


Frontier Pathology NHS Partnership is the joint pathology service of Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH) and Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) and operates laboratories in the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, East Surrey Hospital, Redhill, the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath.


Major investment is ongoing within the Trust and with the building of the Teaching, Trauma and Tertiary care centre over the next few years, which will reinforce the Trust a key player in South East England.


Previous experience of working within a toxicology section/ department is desirable


  • Posts in the Trust are subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Criminal Records Bureau to check for any previous criminal spent and unspent convictions, reprimands, and cautions.


  • Appointment to this role will commence at the lowest salary point unless confirmed otherwise by HR Employment Services (Recruitment, Administration & Terms and Conditions)
